Treesleeper is a translation from the word hei//om, the name given to the San people around the Etosha area who used to sleep on top of the trees to be safely away from lions and other predators.

Treesleeper Campsite is built in harmony with the environment. The main thing that will strike you is that it is possible to sleep on top of the trees. Well, not literally, but they’ve built a series of platforms up to 4 or 5 meters high where you can pitch your tent and have some quiet sleep. The campsite is owned by the Tsintsabis community and managed by the Tsintsabis trust, making sure the money spent here by the tourists get to the locals.

Careful with the Termites!

Apart from accommodation, Treesleeper offers “Bush Walks”, where you are guided by local San people and learn about their secrets for making fire, hunting and the many different plants they know. They are the masters of their environment, and have learned over centuries to adapt to it. In addition to the bush walks, there are also guided visits of the villages nearby, to know the local people and their way of living. At night the main attraction in the camp are the traditional San dances. Camping here costs between 5€ and 10€.
